ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Solicitor General

Okay, imagine you're playing a game with your friends and you're the rule enforcer. Your job is to make sure everyone follows the rules of the game. Well, a Solicitor General is kind of like the rule enforcer for the government. They work for the lawyers who represent the government in court and make sure everyone is following the laws and rules correctly.

So, let's say someone breaks a law and someone else thinks that the government is not doing anything about it. The Solicitor General might get involved and argue in court that the government is actually doing something about it, and that they are following the law correctly.

They also help the government prepare and present legal arguments in court cases that are important to the government. They try to convince the judges that the government's position is the right one, and they defend government actions when they're challenged in court.

So, just like how you make sure everyone follows the rules in your game, the Solicitor General makes sure that the government is following the rules in the legal system.
