South African Airways Flight 295

Well kiddo, a very long time ago in 1987 a big airplane called South African Airways Flight 295 was flying from Taiwan to South Africa. The airplane had lots of people on it and some of them were important people who needed to get back home.

But something very very bad happened on the plane. A big fire started in the cargo area where the suitcases were kept. The fire was so big that it made lots of smoke and the pilots couldn't see or breathe properly.

So the pilots decided to try and land the plane to fix it, but the plane was so full of smoke that they couldn't see the ground properly. The pilots tried their best, but the plane crashed into the ocean. It was a very sad day and many people lost their lives.

Scientists and investigators looked at what happened and found out that the fire started because of some chemicals in the cargo that reacted with each other and caught fire. But even though they found out what happened, it was still a very sad event and people still remember it today.
