Spaceflight radiation carcinogenesis is when exposure to radiation in space can cause cancer. Exposure to radiation can damage cells in our bodies and sometimes when they are damaged they can become cancer cells which form tumors. Cancer is a disease where cells in the body grow and divide in an uncontrolled way and can spread to other parts of the body. Radiation exposure in space can increase the risk of cancer depending on how much radiation is encountered.
