ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Spanglish

Spanglish is when people mix two languages together, mainly Spanish and English. It's like playing with words, where you use some words in one language and some words in another language to create a new sentence.

For example, instead of saying "¿Puedo tener agua, por favor?" which means "Can I have water, please?" in Spanish, someone might say "Can I have agua, por favor?" by using the English word for "can" and the Spanish word for "water" in the same sentence.

Spanglish is unique because it lets people express themselves in a way that might feel more natural to them. It's also a way for people who speak both languages to connect and communicate, especially if they don't feel comfortable speaking in just one language.

It's important to note, however, that Spanglish is not an official language and some people may not understand it or may not feel comfortable using it. So it's always a good idea to be mindful of your audience and use proper language when needed.
