ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Dunglish

"Okay kiddo, so you know how we speak English in our country, right? But sometimes when people from other countries try to speak English, they might not use the right words or grammar. We call that 'Dunglish'. It's like trying to speak a new language, but it doesn't always sound perfect.

Sometimes it's just small mistakes like using 'the' in the wrong place, or saying 'I am have' instead of 'I have'. Other times it's when people use Dutch words in their English sentences, like saying 'I have veel work to do' instead of 'I have a lot of work to do'.

It's not a bad thing to make mistakes in language, it's how we learn and get better. Just like how you learned to talk and make sentences, people who are learning English might make some Dunglish mistakes along the way. And that's okay!"
