Speed of sound

When something makes a sound, like when you hum a tune or your teacher claps in class, the sound waves travel or move from where it's made. Sound waves can move really quickly but not as quickly as light. For example, it takes about 8 minutes for light to travel from the sun to the Earth, but it only takes about 1 second for a sound wave from the sun to reach the Earth. The speed of sound is the speed sound waves can travel. The speed of sound is different in different materials like air, water, or metal. In air, the speed of sound is about 340 meters per second.
