Speed skating

Okay, so speed skating is like ice skating but much much much much faster! When you see the ice skaters on TV going really fast around a big oval-shaped track, that's speed skating.

To do it, you need special ice skates that are long and thin. They're kind of like shoes with really long and sharp blades on the bottom that let you glide really fast over the ice.

The people who do speed skating are really good at it. They train a lot and practice skating really fast for a long time. They have to be really strong and flexible too, because they need to be able to move their legs and arms really quickly to go as fast as they can.

There are different kinds of speed skating races, like sprint races and long-distance races. In the sprint races, skaters go around the track one time as fast as they can. In the long-distance races, the skaters go around the track many times, like 10 or 20 times or even more, and it takes a really long time!

People like to watch speed skating because it's very exciting to see how fast the skaters can go. They sometimes even race against each other to see who can go the fastest! It's kind of like watching cars race or horses run, but on ice.

So that's speed skating in a nutshell. It's ice skating but much faster and the people who do it are really good at it!
