Spindle (textiles)

A spindle is a tool that helps people make different things out of yarn or thread. It's kind of like a stick with a round thing in the middle and two pointy ends.

First, a person takes some fluffy stuff (like wool or cotton) and turns it into a long piece of thread with their hands. Then they tie one end of the thread to the round thing in the middle of the spindle.

Next, they spin the spindle around and around, holding onto the pointy ends. This makes the thread twist together tightly.

As the spindle spins, the person lets out more and more thread from the fluffy stuff. They keep spinning until they have the amount of thread they need for their project, like a sweater or a blanket.

Spindles have been around for thousands of years and are still used today to make all sorts of yarn and textiles.
