Split-complex numbers are special kinds of numbers that are made up of two parts, a real part and an imaginary part. Just like regular numbers, split-complex numbers can be used to do math. The difference between regular numbers and split-complex numbers is that in split-complex numbers, the imaginary part has two parts, a positive (also called “right”) part and a negative (also called “left”) part. Because of this, split-complex numbers can be written in a different form than regular numbers. For example, the split-complex number 5 + 2i (where i represents the imaginary part) can instead be written as 5 + 2L-2R (where L is the negative part and R is the positive part).
