Sri Lankan civil war

The Sri Lankan Civil War was a conflict that lasted from 1983 - 2009 in the country of Sri Lanka. This war was between the Sri Lankan Government and a group called the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). The LTTE was a group of people from a minority ethnic group in Sri Lanka called the Tamils, and they wanted independence from Sri Lanka. The government of Sri Lanka opposed this and so they fought each other in a war. Many people were killed, injured, and displaced in this war, and it finally ended in 2009 when the Sri Lankan government was able to defeat the LTTE.
