St Scholastica Day riot

One time many years ago, there was a big argument between two very important groups of people - scholars and townspeople. The scholars were students who spent their time studying at a place called Oxford University, and the townspeople were regular folks who lived and worked in the area.

On St. Scholastica's Day, which is a special day in the church calendar, some of the scholars got into a fight with some of the townspeople.

The fight started because a dispute arose about the quality of wine served at a pub owned by one of the townspeople. The scholars were unhappy with the wine, and an argument broke out between them and the townspeople.

As tensions rose, more people got involved and things got out of hand. Soon, the scholars were being attacked by the townspeople and a full-blown riot had broken out.

The riot continued for two days, leaving many people injured or even dead. Eventually, the king had to step in to restore order and punish those responsible for the violence.

This event became known as the St. Scholastica Day Riot, and it is remembered as a tragic example of how small disagreements can quickly spiral out of control when people can't find a way to peacefully resolve their differences.
