ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Stab-in-the-back myth

Okay kiddo, so long ago in Germany there was a war called World War I, and it didn't go very well for Germany. They lost the war and this made a lot of people very angry and upset.

Some people in Germany started to believe that the reason they lost the war wasn't because they were beaten by the other countries, but because the people back home in Germany weren't supporting the soldiers enough.

This idea that people back home "stabbed" the soldiers in their back by not supporting them enough is called the stab-in-the-back myth. It's kind of like blaming someone for losing a game even when they tried their best, just because they didn't have enough support from their teammates.

But, this idea was not true. Germany lost the war because they were not strong enough to win, and it wasn't fair to blame the people back home for something they didn't do wrong.

It's important to remember that sometimes things don't go the way we want them to, and it's okay to be disappointed. But blaming other people for our mistakes is not the right way to handle things.
