Stakhanovism

Stakhanovism was a movement in the Soviet Union. It was named for a miner named Alexei Stakhanov, who worked very hard and produced a lot more coal than the usual in a very short amount of time. The idea was to encourage people to work hard and be very productive. The government rewarded people who were productive in this way with praise, money, and sometimes special privileges.
