ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Statistical inference

Statistical inference is a way of using data and math to learn more about the world around us. It's a way of making guesses about the world based on a set of numbers. For example, if you have data about how many cars drive through a street each day, statistical inference can help you predict, or figure out, how many cars might drive through that street on a similar day in the future. Statistical inference is all about making predictions and understanding the data we have available.
