ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Steam generator (boiler)

A steam generator, or boiler, is a machine that heats water to boiling and produces steam. Steam is hot air, much like the air coming out of a hair dryer or a vacuum cleaner. The steam from the boiler is used to heat homes, buildings, and to power machines and engines. Boilers have tubes inside that are filled with water. When the water is heated, it turns into hot steam and rises up, pushing the tubes open and allowing the steam to escape.
