Sterilisation (medicine)

Okay kiddo, you know how sometimes people don't want to have babies? Well, they can choose to have a special medical procedure called sterilisation.

Sterilisation is like putting a lock on the doors to a house. It makes it so that no more babies can get in or out. But instead of a lock on a house, it's a special surgery on a person's body.

For a girl, the doctor might do something called a tubal ligation. This means they cut or tie little tubes that connect the girl's eggs and her womb. When the tubes are cut or tied, the eggs can't make it to the womb to grow into a baby.

For a boy, the doctor might do something called a vasectomy. This means they cut or tie little tubes that carry the boy's sperm. When the tubes are cut or tied, the sperm can't get out and mix with a girl's egg to make a baby.

After the surgery, it's very important for the person to not have sex without using another type of birth control, like a condom. That way, they can be EXTRA sure no babies will come.

Sterilisation is a permanent decision, which means once it's done, it's very hard (almost impossible) to undo. So, it's important for people to think about it carefully and talk to their doctor about it before getting the surgery.
