ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Stoolball

Stoolball is a game that people used to play a long time ago, kind of like a really old-fashioned version of baseball or cricket. Instead of hitting a ball with a bat, though, you use a stick or a club to hit a smaller ball called a "stoolball" that's about the size of a tennis ball.

The game gets its name from the fact that there used to be a stool or a seat in the center of the field that the batter would try to hit the stoolball past. The other players would try to catch the stoolball or pick it up and throw it to try and get the batter out.

There are a few different versions of the game, but generally, it's played on a field that's kind of like a square with a base at each corner. One person stands at each base, and the batter stands at one end of the field and hits the stoolball as far as they can. Then they try to run around the bases and score points before the other team can get the stoolball back to the center of the field and hit the stool.

It might sound a little complicated, but if you've ever played baseball or rounders, it's a bit like that. Just remember that instead of a ball and a bat, you use a stoolball and a stick or club, and there's a stool in the middle of the field that everyone's trying to hit!
