ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Storage (memory)

Okay kiddo, let's talk about storage or memory.

You know how you have a toy box where you keep all your toys. Your brain is like that toy box, but it's much bigger and can store a lot more than just toys. It stores everything you remember, like things you learned in school, your favorite songs, and even memories of fun times you had with your family and friends.

Just like you can add or remove toys from your toy box, you can add or remove things from your brain's memory. But sometimes the things you want to remember might get lost or forgotten, just like a toy that gets lost in your room.

Now, when we talk about storage for computers, it's like the toy box for your brain. Computers have a special kind of memory called hard drive or solid-state drive. Just like your toy box, it can store different kinds of things like pictures, music, and documents.

But unlike your brain, the computer memory can't remember things on its own. It needs something called power to work, just like toys need your hands to move or play with them.

Also, just like you might fill up your toy box with too many toys, the computer memory can also get full, and you might need to delete some things to make room for other things.

So to sum it up, storage or memory is like a box where you keep things you want to remember or use later. Your brain has memory, and so do computers but they work a little differently. And just like your toy box or computer memory, sometimes you need to make space for new things by removing old things.
