ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Stranded gas reserve

Okay kiddo, so sometimes there is gas hiding deep under the ground, and it can't get up to the surface by itself. This is called stranded gas.

Now imagine you have a really big balloon, and you want to fill it up with gas. But when you try to blow into it, you can't quite get all the air in because some of it is stuck in the bottom of your lungs, and you can't get it out.

This is kind of like the stranded gas. It's like the air stuck in the bottom of your lungs - it can't get out on its own.

So what do we do about it? Well, sometimes we can build big pipes and pumps to help get the gas out of the ground and up to the surface. This is called extracting the gas.

Once we extract the gas, we can use it to power things like cars or make electricity for our homes. But first we have to figure out how to get the stranded gas out of the ground!
