ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Structural drawing

Okay, so you know how when you build a toy tower with blocks, you usually start with the bigger blocks at the bottom and then stack smaller blocks on top to make it taller? Well, when grown-ups build big buildings or bridges, they also have to plan how to put all the parts together in the right way so that everything stays strong and safe.

To do this, they make something called a structural drawing. It's like a special map or picture that shows all the details of how the building or bridge will be put together, like which pieces of metal or concrete go where, and how they're connected to each other.

It's really important for the structural drawing to be accurate because if even one part is wrong or missing, it could make the whole building or bridge less safe or even collapse. So, the grown-ups who make the drawing have to be very careful and use math and science to figure out the best way to build it so that everything stays strong and secure.

That's why they say that a structural drawing is like the instruction manual for building big things, and it helps everyone involved know exactly what they need to do to make sure everything turns out alright.
