ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Structural stability

Structural stability is like an agility test for buildings, bridges and other structures. Buildings, bridges and other structures are made of different materials and in different shapes, and these materials and shapes can make them more or less stable. Structural stability is how much a structure can withstand pressure, wind, weather, and other forces that could make it move, collapse, or break apart. To figure out how stable a structure is, engineers and architects will test it with all kinds of forces, to make sure it can handle everything that might happen to it. This way, you can know that the structure is strong enough to stay safe.
