Suction (medicine)

Suction in medicine is when doctors use a machine to remove extra fluids or mucus from parts of your body such as your nose, mouth or lungs. Imagine if you drink a big gulp of water and some of it goes down the wrong tube making you cough, the doctor could use suction to remove that water from your lungs so you can breathe easy again! The machine uses a special tube that goes into your body and sucks up the extra fluid with gentle suction, like a vacuum cleaner. This helps the doctor make sure that you do not get infections, breathing troubles or any other problems. It's like cleaning out your body to make you feel better!
