ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Sudoku

Sudoku is like a puzzle game that you have to fill up with numbers. It is like a math game but is also fun to play.

The game has a square board, and it is divided into nine smaller squares called "regions." Each region is made up of three rows and three columns that are also squares.

Your job is to fill in the empty cells of the puzzle board with numbers, from 1 to 9, in such a way that each region, each row, and each column has all the numbers from one to nine, without repeating any number more than once.

So basically, you have a puzzle with lots of empty cells or boxes that you have to fill with one number each. You can’t put the same number twice in a row, column or smaller square.

It is like when you have a coloring book, and you have to fill up all the white pages, but instead of colors, you are filling up empty boxes with numbers. The more boxes you finish, the closer you are to winning the game.

Sudoku is a great way to practice your math skills and your problem-solving abilities, and you can play it all by yourself or with your friends, and you can find it in books, newspapers, or even on your phone or tablet!
