ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Sustainable seafood

Okay kiddo, do you know what seafood is? It's the fish, shrimp, crab or other creatures that we can eat from the ocean. But sometimes we can really hurt the ocean by taking too many of these creatures out of it. That's where sustainable seafood comes in.

Sustainable seafood is about being responsible with the seafood that we eat so that we can protect the ocean and the creatures that live in it. It's like making sure you don't take too many cookies from the cookie jar, so you always have some left for later.

When we catch too many fish or other creatures from the ocean, it can really hurt their populations. This means there won't be enough left for us to eat, and it can throw the whole ecosystem off balance. That's why sustainable seafood means only taking the right amount of fish and other creatures so that we don't hurt the ocean or the creatures in it.

Sometimes this means choosing certain types of seafood over others. For example, some types of fish are more endangered than others, so we shouldn't eat them. We also need to make sure we don't use fishing methods that can really harm the ocean or other creatures, like big nets that catch everything in their path.

So, sustainable seafood is all about being responsible with the seafood we eat, so we can protect the ocean and the creatures that call it home. It's like making sure we always have cookies left for later, by only taking what we need.
