Taíno

Well kiddo, Taíno is a word that describes a group of people who used to live in the Caribbean a really long time ago. They had their own language and culture, which included things like music, food, and art.

The Taínos were very connected to nature and would often use things like plants and herbs for their medicinal properties. They also had a lot of respect for animals and believed that they had special powers.

The Taínos would grow crops like maize (corn) and cassava (a root vegetable) to eat, and they would also go fishing and hunting. They were very skilled at making things with their hands, like baskets and pottery, and they would use natural resources like clay and straw to make them.

Unfortunately, the Taínos were not treated very well when new people came to their land from far away. Their population decreased a lot because they became sick from diseases that were brought over by the new people, and some were even forced to work as slaves.

But even though the Taínos are no longer here today, they have left a big impact on the Caribbean and their culture and traditions can still be seen in the things we eat, the music we listen to, and the art we admire.
