Temizuya is a special place in Japanese culture where people can clean their hands and mouths before entering a sacred area like a shrine or temple. It's like a small outdoor sink with water and ladles.
First, you have to bow your head and show respect to the sacred place. Then, you take a ladle and pour water over one hand while holding it over a bowl to catch the water. Repeat the same process with the other hand. After that, you pour water into your cupped hand and rinse your mouth. Do not swallow the water! Spit it out into the drain below. Finally, you hold the ladle up perpendicular to the ground to let the remaining water flow down it, and then put the ladle back in its place.
By doing this ritual, people show a sign of purification and respect before entering the sacred place. It's important to keep the temizuya clean and neat, and not touch the water with your mouth, but also a fun and different experience for visitors.
