ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Temporal light interference

Temporal light interference is when two or more beams of light overlap each other and create patterns of bright and dark areas. It's kind of like when you have two flashlights and shine them at the same spot, and the light waves mix together and make stripes of light and dark on the wall.

The reason this happens is because light waves are made up of different colors and frequencies that sometimes line up perfectly and sometimes cancel each other out. This creates a kind of "interference" pattern that changes over time as the waves move and interact with each other.

Scientists can use this phenomenon to create cool effects like holograms and 3D images. It's also used in technologies like fiber optics and laser communication to help transmit information faster and more efficiently.
