ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Tensile strength

Tensile strength is a measure of how strong a material is when it’s being stretched. It can be used to measure how much pressure a material can withstand before it breaks or fails. To understand it better, it helps to think of a rubber band. If you pull on the rubber band, it will stretch. But if you pull it too far, it will break. The tensile strength of a rubber band is the amount of force it can withstand before it breaks. In other words, it’s the amount of stretching the band can handle without breaking.
