Terrace (earthworks)

Okay kiddo, have you ever seen a garden with different levels or steps?

Well, imagine if you need to create a big garden with lots of levels or steps. Instead of building a big staircase, you can make a terrace.

A terrace is like a flat area created on the side of a hill or mountain by digging into it to create a flat spot. It allows you to create flat areas where you can walk, plant things, sit or even put a house on.

To make a terrace, you have to dig up the dirt and move it downwards to create a flat surface. Then, you can put soil and plants on top of it. This is called earthworks because you are moving the earth to create a new shape.

It's like making a fancy cake. You have to cut slices of cake and stack them on top of each other to create a taller cake. But instead of cake, you use dirt!

Terraces can help prevent soil erosion by keeping the soil from washing away when it rains. They can also make it easier to farm on hillsides and mountains.
