Territorial changes of the Baltic states

Okay, so there are some countries called the Baltic States. They are Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. A long long time ago, they used to be part of bigger countries like Russia, Germany and Sweden. But then, something called World War I happened and these countries became independent.

But it didn't last very long. During World War II, a really really bad guy named Adolf Hitler wanted to take over these countries. He sent his army and they took over the Baltic States. But then, another country called the Soviet Union also wanted to take over these countries. So, after the war was over, the Soviet Union took control of the Baltic States.

The people who lived in the Baltic States didn't like being controlled by the Soviet Union because they wanted to be free and make their own choices. So, they started protesting and demanding independence. Finally, in the late 1980s and early 1990s, they were successful and the Baltic States became independent countries again!

But there were still some challenges. The Soviet Union didn't want to give up control of these countries, so there were some conflicts and negotiations. Eventually, the Soviet Union dissolved and the Baltic States were able to fully regain their independence and make their own decisions about their territories and borders.
