ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Text linguistics

Text linguistics is like a special way of looking at how we use words and sentences to make stories or give information. You know how when you tell a story to your friend, you usually start with some words to let them know what the story is about? That's called the "topic". Text linguistics looks at how we choose the topic and how we organize the story, or the information we're giving, to make it easy for our friends to understand. It's like when you draw a picture and you need to make sure all the different parts are in the right place so it makes sense. Text linguistics helps us understand how we can use words in the right order to make a good story or give information in a way that people can understand.
