Text retrieval is sort of like finding a toy in a big toy box. When you want to find a specific toy, like your favorite doll, you have to look through all the other toys to find it.
In the same way, when you want to find a specific piece of information in a big bunch of text, like a book or website, you have to search through all the words to find it.
The way to do this is by using a computer program that helps you search for the words you want. You type in the words you're looking for, like "favorite doll" and the program looks through all the words in the book or website to find where those words are located.
Then, it shows you all the places where the words are found, so you can easily find the information you were looking for. This helps us to find information quickly and easily, just like finding our favorite toy in a big toy box!
