The Martyr of Antioch
The martyr of Antioch is a story about a person who lived a long time ago in Antioch, which is now in modern-day Turkey. This person believed very strongly in a particular religion and was willing to die for their beliefs.
The story goes that this person was taken by some people who believed differently and were hostile to their religion. They were put in front of a big crowd of people who were angry and shouting. The person was asked to give up their beliefs and admit that they were wrong, but they refused.
The angry people then decided to punish the person by putting them in a place with a lot of hungry, wild animals. The person was very scared, but still believed in their religion and refused to give it up.
The wild animals were then released and started to attack the person. But instead of hurting the person, the animals actually started to protect them. The person was unharmed and the people watching were amazed.
However, the angry people did not give up and decided to try a different way of killing the person. They put them in a big cauldron of boiling oil. The person was once again very scared, but still refused to give up their beliefs.
As the person was in the boiling oil, they were met with a vision of their religion's god, who told them that they would be okay and welcomed them into their kingdom. Suddenly, the boiling oil turned into cool, refreshing water and the person was unharmed.
