The Portuguese in Indonesia were people from Portugal who traveled to Indonesia many years ago. They helped to develop trade and also brought some of their culture to the country. The Portuguese explored many parts of Indonesia, including parts of what is now Jakarta, and they also introduced Christianity to the people. The Portuguese built many churches throughout the country, which can still be seen today. The Portuguese also brought technology to Indonesia which helped to develop the country, including new methods of farming and fishing which allowed the people to grow more food. The Portuguese left Indonesia in the 17th century and their influence still exists today.
