ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

The Price of Privilege

Okay kiddo, let me explain the price of privilege to you like you're 5 years old!

Privilege is something that some people have and some people don't. It's kind of like having more toys than your friend, but way more important. Some people have privilege because of things like their skin color, their gender, their religion, or their family's money.

Now, when you have privilege, it can be really nice. It means that you have more opportunities and things come easier to you. But the thing is, having privilege also comes with a price.

The price of privilege is that you may not even realize how much of an advantage you have. You might think that everyone has it as easy as you do, but that's just not true. People who don't have privilege have to work a lot harder to get the same things you have. They may face discrimination or barriers that you don't even know about because you've never experienced them.

The price of privilege is also that people might resent you for it. They might be jealous of the things you have or feel like you don't deserve them. That can lead to tension and conflict between people.

So, while having privilege can be really nice, it's important to remember that it comes with a price. It's important to be aware of our privilege and to try to use it to help others who may not have the same advantages that we do.
