ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

The empire on which the sun never sets

Back in the olden days, many different countries were trying to take over other countries and make them part of their own. One of those countries was called "England" and it got really good at taking over other places.

Eventually, England had control over many different parts of the world, like a big puzzle with lots of pieces. Some of these places were really far away, and when it was daytime in England, it was nighttime in these faraway places.

So people started saying that the sun never set on the empire of England, because it was always daytime somewhere that England had control over. It was kind of like England was so big and powerful, it was always daytime somewhere in its empire.
