ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

The finger

Okay kiddo, let's talk about your fingers! Your fingers are the long, thin body parts at the end of your hands that help you touch, hold, and grab things.

Let's start with the bones in your fingers. Did you know that each finger has three bones called phalanges except for your thumb, which has two? When you bend your fingers, these bones move around each other.

Now, let's talk about your skin on your fingers. Your skin has tiny bumps called fingerprints which help you grip things better. Your nails also grow at the ends of your fingers, and you can use them to scratch or pick things up.

Your fingers also have muscles and tendons that help you move them. Muscles are what make your fingers curl and bend, while tendons are strong fibers that attach your muscles to your bones.

All of these parts work together to help you do so many things with your fingers! You can play with toys, hold a pencil to write, and even eat your food. Your fingers are amazing!
