Okay kiddo, let's talk about therapeutic vaccines!
Do you remember how vaccines work? They help your body fight off germs, right? Well, therapeutic vaccines are a little different. Instead of preventing a disease, they are designed to help treat it.
Let's say you get sick with a virus like the flu. Your body's immune system will work hard to try to fight off the virus, but sometimes it needs a little extra help. That's where a therapeutic vaccine comes in.
A therapeutic vaccine creates a special type of immune cell called a T-cell. These T-cells are like little soldiers that can recognize and attack the virus that's making you sick. The vaccine helps your body create more of these special T-cells to help you get better faster.
Now, not all illnesses have a therapeutic vaccine yet. But scientists are working hard to develop them for many different diseases, like HIV and cancer.
So, that's a brief (and hopefully easy to understand!) explanation of what a therapeutic vaccine is. Pretty cool, right?
