ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Thermal fade

Thermal fade is when something (like a piece of equipment or a signal) gets weaker or less effective because it becomes too hot. It's like when you leave your ice cream cone in the sun too long and it gets all melty and gooey. Just like how the heat melts your ice cream, it can also make the parts of electronic equipment blurry or hard to read, or mess up signals like TV or radio transmission. Scientists have to be careful when they design electronics so they can handle the heat without getting messed up, just like you have to be careful not to leave your ice cream out in the sun!
