ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Three-act structure

Okay kiddo, do you like stories? You know, like the ones we read before bedtime? Well, most stories have three parts to them. That's called the three-act structure and it goes like this:

Act 1: This is the beginning of the story, where we meet the main character and learn about their life. Something important usually happens here that sets the story in motion, like they get a special quest or meet someone they want to help.

Act 2: This is the middle part of the story where things start to get really exciting. The main character faces lots of challenges and obstacles that they need to overcome to achieve their goal. They might also learn new things and meet new friends who help them along the way. This part of the story is longer than the others, because there's lots of adventure and action happening.

Act 3: This is the end of the story, where everything comes to a climax. The main character faces their biggest challenge yet, and it seems like all hope is lost. But then, they come up with a plan or use what they've learned to solve the problem and achieve their goal. This part is usually shorter than the others, because it's like the big exciting finale.

So, that's the three-act structure. Beginning, middle, and end. It's like building a cake - you have to put in all the right ingredients at the right times to make it taste delicious!
