Tides happen when the ocean is moved by the gravity of the moon and the sun. The moon's gravity pulls the water towards it, and the sun's gravity pulls the water away. Every day the moon and the sun move around us in their orbits, and the ocean moves with them. When the ocean moves, it makes big waves called tides. The tides go in and out twice every day, and the waves get bigger or smaller as the moon and sun move around us.
