ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Time–frequency representation

Time-frequency representation is like having a map that shows us relationships between time and frequency. Frequency is how often something happens, such as a sound or a vibration, and time is how long it takes for something to happen. On a time-frequency map, each point on the map shows how much of the sound or vibration is happening at a certain time. We can compare two different points on the map and see how they are related to each other in terms of time and frequency. By looking at the map, we can tell how a sound or vibration changes over time and how it affects the energy of the sound or vibration.
