ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Timeline of Continuity IRA actions

Okay, so imagine a big story book with lots of different chapters. The story book is called "The Continuity IRA". Now, each chapter is like a different action the Continuity IRA took over the years.

The first chapter happened way back in 1986, when the Continuity IRA was first formed. They did some things like rob banks and steal weapons from the police.

Then there was another chapter in 1997, where the Continuity IRA planted a bomb in a town called Enniskillen. It was a really bad thing they did, because a lot of innocent people got hurt and some even died.

After that, there were many more chapters in the book. Some of them were small things, like protests and demonstrations. But others were much bigger, like bombings and shootings.

The book kept going and going, with more and more chapter being added every year. But eventually, people started to get really tired of all the violence and destruction. So, in 2012, the Continuity IRA announced that they were going to stop all their armed attacks.

Now the book is mostly over, but sometimes, some people still try to do things in the name of the Continuity IRA. But most people just want to move on and have peace in Ireland.
