Timeline of Mongolian history

Mongolia is a country in Asia that has a very long and interesting history. Let's go back in time and learn more about the timeline of Mongolian history!

- About 8000 BCE: People start living in Mongolia, hunting and gathering food from nature.
- 300 BCE - 200 CE: The Xiongnu people, who were skilled horse riders and warriors, dominated the region and established a nomadic empire.
- 1206 CE: Genghis Khan, a great leader, unites the nomadic tribes of Mongolia and creates the Mongol Empire. He and his army conquer many lands in Asia and Europe, spreading their power.
- 1260 CE: The Mongol Empire splits into smaller states, including the Yuan Dynasty in China, the Golden Horde in Russia, and the Ilkhanate in Persia.
- 1368 CE: The Ming Dynasty replaces the Yuan Dynasty in China, and the Mongolian rulers lose control over China.
- 1578 CE: Altan Khan, a Mongolian leader, invites the Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, to Mongolia and declares Tibetan Buddhism as the national religion.
- 1691 CE: The Qing Dynasty of China conquers Mongolia and makes it a province of China.
- 1911 CE: Mongolia gains independence from the Qing Dynasty and declares itself a republic.
- 1921 CE: The Mongolian People's Republic is established as a Soviet-backed state.
- 1990 CE: Mongolia undergoes a peaceful democratic revolution and becomes a democratic republic.
