ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Timeline of first women's suffrage in majority-Muslim countries

Okay kiddo, let me explain it to you in a way that you can easily understand. "Women's suffrage" means the right for women to vote in elections.

Now, in some countries where most of the people practice the Islamic religion, it took a long time for women to get the right to vote.

The first country in the Islamic world to give women the right to vote was Turkey in 1934.

But it wasn't until after World War II, in the 1950s, that women in some other countries, like Pakistan and Indonesia, were allowed to vote too.

Unfortunately, there were still a lot of Muslim countries where women didn't have the right to vote for many years. For example, in Saudi Arabia, women were only allowed to vote in 2015.

So, it took a long time for women in majority-muslim countries to gain the right to vote, but they eventually did through hard work and determination.
