Timeline of the Second Italo–Abyssinian War

Okay kiddo, let's talk about the second Italo-Abyssinian War! This is when Italy and Ethiopia went to war in 1935. It all started because Italy wanted more land and power in Africa, and Ethiopia was one of the few countries in Africa that had not been taken over by European powers yet.

So, in October 1935, Italy sent their army and airplanes to invade Ethiopia. They thought it would be an easy fight, but the Ethiopians were strong and had a clever leader named Emperor Haile Selassie. The war lasted for about 7 months, from October 1935 to May 1936.

The Italians used a lot of modern weapons like tanks and poison gas, but the Ethiopians still fought hard with spears, swords, and guns. The Ethiopian army was very loyal to their emperor and country, and they didn't give up easily.

There were many battles during the war, but the most famous one is the Battle of Adwa. This was in 1896, during the first Italo-Ethiopian War, and it was a big victory for Ethiopia. They defeated the Italian army and showed the world that they were a strong and independent country. This made the Italians very angry and they wanted revenge.

After many months of fighting, the Italians finally won the war in May 1936. Emperor Haile Selassie had to leave Ethiopia and go into exile. The Italians then took over the country and made it part of their empire.

But this war was not just about Italy and Ethiopia. Other countries were involved too. The League of Nations, which was a group of countries that tried to keep peace in the world, tried to stop the war. But they couldn't do much because Italy was one of the strongest countries in the League.

In the end, the second Italo-Abyssinian War was a sad time for Ethiopia. But it also showed the world that Ethiopia was a country that could fight for its independence and freedom. And it reminded people that war is never a good thing, and that we should try to solve our problems peacefully.
