Topological defect

Topological defects are spots in space where there are mismatches in the pattern or shape. Think of it like a patch on a quilt. All of the other pieces fit nicely together in their pattern, but then there is a space or spot where the pieces aren't quite fitting together the same way. That spot or space is a topological defect.
