Torogan

A torogan is a kind of house that is special to the Maranao people of the Philippines. It is a big house made of wood, and it looks very impressive because it has lots of fancy carvings and decorations on it.

To get inside a torogan, you have to climb up on a special ladder that is called a "hagdan." Once you are inside, you will see that the main room is really big and open, and it doesn't have any walls to separate different areas of the room. Instead, there are curtains or blinds that can be pulled to make different sections of the room.

In a torogan, the bedrooms are usually upstairs, and they are reached by climbing up another small ladder that's tucked away in a corner of the main room. These bedrooms are special because they have a special balcony called a "payag" that looks out over the surrounding area.

Torogans are very important to Maranao culture because they are a symbol of wealth, power, and status. They are usually built by the community's most wealthy and influential families, and they are often used for big events like weddings or other celebrations. In fact, when a young person is about to get married, their family might build them their very own torogan as a special gift!
