Transhumance

Transhumance is a really big word that means when people move animals from one place to another depending on the season. Think of it like when you go on vacation with your family during the summer and then you come back home for school in the fall.

In transhumance, people move their animals like cows, sheep, and goats from lowlands to highlands in the summer because there is more grass and water for them to eat and drink. Then, in the winter, when it gets really cold and snowy, they bring their animals back down to the lowlands because there is less snow and the animals can find food and warmth better.

People have been doing this for a really, really long time. And it's still happening today in some places around the world!
