ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Treaty of Lausanne

Okay kiddo, let me explain the Treaty of Lausanne in a way that you can understand.

So, a long time ago, there was a big war called World War I. Many countries fought in this war, and it caused a lot of destruction and sadness. One of the countries that fought in the war was called Turkey.

After the war ended, countries got together to talk about how to make things better and prevent more wars from happening. They wanted to make some rules that everyone would have to follow.

The Treaty of Lausanne was one of these rules that was made specifically for Turkey. It was signed in a city called Lausanne in Switzerland in 1923.

The treaty basically said that Turkey had to give up some of its land to other countries, like Greece, Italy, and France. It also said that Turkey could only have a small army, and it had to promise to not cause trouble with other countries.

The treaty also said that Turkey had to respect the rights of different groups of people within its borders, like Christians and Jews.

So, that's the Treaty of Lausanne in a nutshell. It was a set of rules that were made after World War I to help keep the peace between different countries, and specifically, it affected Turkey.
